What I check

Ten things, all of them what a customer sees on a phone. I don't need your login.

  1. Claimed or not. Whether the listing is claimed, and by whom. Plenty were set up years ago by a former employee or never claimed at all.
  2. Hours. Whether they match the hours you really keep, including the next holiday.
  3. Categories. Your main category and the extras. “Roofing contractor” tells Google a lot more than “Contractor.”
  4. Phone. Whether the number on the listing is current and rings where you want it to.
  5. Website and Book buttons. Where each one goes, and whether it lands on a page that works on a phone.
  6. Photos. How many, how old, and whether they show your work or somebody else's.
  7. Review count. How many reviews you have, and how recent the newest one is.
  8. Reply rate. How many of those reviews got an answer from you.
  9. Your name, address and phone on the big directories. Whether they match your Google listing, or an old number is still out there.
  10. A call button on your website. Whether someone on a phone can tap your number from your site without zooming.

Then I circle the top three fixes, in the order I'd do them. The first one is usually something you can fix yourself in ten minutes. I check every line myself before it goes out, and my name and number are at the bottom of the page, so you know who to ask.

Why one page

Most owners don't need a binder. They need to hear that the phone number on the listing is the old one, or that Google thinks they're a “Contractor” when they fix roofs. That fits on one page. If it takes forty pages to explain, it's probably padding.

What this isn't

  • It isn't a ranking promise. Nobody controls Google's results, and I won't pretend to.
  • It isn't a login grab. I look only at what the public sees.
  • It isn't a sales trap. You can read it, fix the three things yourself and never call.

Questions about the checkup

Is it really free?

Yes. No card, no contract. It's the same look I'd take before quoting anybody.

Do you need my Google login?

No. I check what a customer sees. If you hire us later, you add me as a manager on your listing and you stay the owner.

What if I don't have a Google listing?

Then that's line one of your checkup, and I'll say whether you should have one. A business that only sells online to the whole country probably doesn't need one.

What does it cost if I want you to do the fixes?

The Google Profile Starter is one setup fee, then a flat monthly, month to month. Call and I'll give you the numbers straight. Bigger plans, we talk through on the call.

I'm not in Louisville. Can I still ask?
